The world of biotechnology deals with thousands of different more and less dangerous species of (micro) organisms. Every one of them is specific which requires specific conditions if we want to control and manipulate with them. Prerequisite for wanted results of researches beside qualified personnel are properly maintained and equipped laboratories.
Cleanliness in biotechnical industry is key factor because of at least two reasons. First, it provides absence of unwanted organisms, food for them and any other unwanted substance, which means reliable results of analysis. Secondly, the health of personnel can only be guaranteed by isolating the employees from microorganisms and protect them against infections.
Good practice for laboratories is preventive actions to prevent any uncontrolled reproduction of microorganisms, because the result of it could be hazardous. In laboratories appropriate ventilation and cleanliness have to be ensured. Every critical phase of analysis, which requires higher environment cleanliness level, is performed in special sterile chambers, while work with hazardous volatile substances is carried out in fume hoods.
Special environmental requirements for plant breeding and for cleanliness have to be applied in growth chambers and quarantine glasshouses, where temperature, humidity, pressure and brightness can be regulated.
